You’ve heard of “a room with a view” right?

Typically it describes a great place to dine, stay or just hang out.

We recently completed a steel tubing fabrication project for one of the largest “rooms with a view” in the United States!

Offshore, a bar-restaurant that claims to be the largest rooftop venue in the country, recently opened at Chicago’s Navy Pier. It offers 36,000 square feet of enclosed hospitality space, offering cocktails, cuisine and sweeping skyline views of the Windy City.

Even though it’s out on Navy Pier – surrounded by water on three sides, and susceptible to biting cold winds – Offshore welcomes guests all year long.

Thanks to an invitation from our friends at Novum Structures, Max Weiss Company helped create the structure that makes Offshore usable year-round. We bent 13 segments with specs of 12-3/4''  O.D.  X  3/8''  WALL  HSS  RND.  TUBE  A500  GR.  C  FORMED  49  FT  4  INCH  MIN.  ARC  LENGTH  TO  A  74 FT 3-5/16  INCH  CENTERLINE  RADIUS. The finished pieces are the ribs of the restaurant’s curved roof, which rises gracefully between two towers.

As always in our steel fabrication, quality was paramount . The round hollow A500 Grade C section was formed distortion free, to ensure no surprises in the customer’s fit-up. Dave Gregg, our Director of Operations, and Dan Bertzyk, our Quality Coordinator, oversaw the metal forming processes.

We’ve included some videos here so you can get a feeling for Offshore. If you get there, it’s worth spending some time. The place features craft cocktails, a full menu, comfy furniture and balcony fire pits.

If you’re able to pull your eyes away from the Chicago skyline, glance up at the roof and see our handiwork. It’s fun helping create a place where people have fun.

Just sit back, relax and take in the view. This is a VERY large room with one, after all.
